I began babysitting Ariana when I was in middle school and she was just a baby. Soon after, I became close with the family, helping with Ariana in so many different aspects of her day. With time, I became more involved with learning about Down syndrome. Witnessing first hand the work Ariana had to endure for things we take for granted, was life changing. Being part of her struggles and celebrations taught me not to let the little things in life hold me back. I saw the constant battle of learning to communicate; from signing to a communication board. Seeing the struggles and witnessing the need for speech, helped me decide what I wanted to do when I graduated. Through my time spent with Ariana, I was inspired to pursue a career in Speech Pathology. Now in college, and still helping with Ariana, I am always reminded of the importance speech therapy is for so many families. I am so grateful I chose this path.
